TRIP DESCRIPTION
Based in the Saas Tal in Switzerland. This stunning area is home to more than a dozen fine 4000m peaks. We would aim to ascend several of these by their classic normal routes.
ITINERARY
Day 1 Walk up to Brittania Hut from short cable car above Saas Fee (2 ½ hours) and spend the afternoon on a glacier reviewing rope work and safety procedures.
Day 2 Breakfast at 3am, followed by a five hour walk over glacial terrain to summit of Strahlhorn (4,190m)
Day 3 Ascent of the dramatic Allalinhorn (4,027m) and then descend to Saas Fee. Overnight in a hotel in Saas Grund.
Day 4 Fantastic walk up to the Almageller Hut (2,890m). Four hours of effort is rewarded by one of the best Alpine huts in the area with Ibex playing outside.
Day 5 4am start and walk to the Zwischenbergen Pass for one hour in the dark. The South East flank of the Weissmiess lies above on snow and then easy rocks. The top (4,023m) is a great view point for the Mischabel Chain. Descend to the Weissmiess Hut.
Day 6 We will ascend the Lagginhorn (4,010m), if we still feel fit by its normal route, which is mainly easy rocks. Descend to valley for a well earned lunch.
